City poised for Baines battle

Arsenal will reportedly join Manchester City in the bid to try and lure defender Leighton Baines away from Everton this summer.
City boss Roberto Mancini has been heavily linked with a swoop on Goodison Park this summer as Jack Rodwell is another possible transfer target.
And, following recent reports that 26-year-old Baines is wanted at Eastlands with talk of a possible cash-plus-player deal involving Wayne Bridge, it now looks like Gunners boss Arsene Wenger could try and make a counter offer to take the England international to the Emirates Stadium.
Toffees boss David Moyes would be loathe to lose such a key player in Baines, but with finances tight at the Merseyside club, the Scot has been informed that he will have to sell before he can then move to bring in any of his own transfer targets.
And, this could lead to an interesting scramble between City and Arsenal as the two clubs bid to bolster their respective back lines for Champions League football next term.
